This unassuming chalet cuckoo clock is possessed of a number of unique qualities that may not be readily apparent to the viewer at first glance. Attention to detail is a common characteristic of chalet cuckoo clocks – a large part of the enjoyment that comes from owning one is discovering each new small feature. One the cuckoo clock’s more interesting elements is the detail work used on the stream that drives the waterwheel. In most instances, the stream is not pictured and left to the viewer’s imagination. Here the stream stands out in a vivid blue color and seems to run off the side of the clock. Small grey rocks are placed strategically along its banks to compliment the color and to create a feeling of realism. The same blue coloring used for the stream is repeated on the tips of the waterwheel’s blades.

On either side of the cuckoo clock stand two green fir trees. Their dark green coloring matches well to the varying shades of brown used for the clock’s case and also serve to frame the scene. A traditional wooden wheelbarrow is placed beneath the tree next to the waterwheel. Continuing to the right facing the clock is a happy St. Bernard with his iconic barrel tied to his collar. He regards the viewer with a friendly expression, ready to romp and play in the Alpine snows. To the right of the dog sits his master – an intricately carved accordion player. The impressive woodworking skill shown in his instrument alone makes him the cuckoo clock’s most eye-catching figurine. He sits on a rustic wooden chair next to a barrel upon which sits his mug of frosty beer. Behind the accordion player is set a small pile of wood and a basket containing a bundle of sticks.

The case of the cuckoo clock is done in a medium dark stain. This is accented by timbers of blonde wood along the base and framing the windows. The light green shutters match perfectly to the green of the pine trees and in the accordion player’s traditional dress. As the music plays, dancers beneath the cuckoo door will dance and twirl to the tune. The red in the ladies dresses provides delightful splashes of color as they spin.

This clock is absolutely beautiful. I got it as a Christmas present and was amazed at the detail and quality. The music would not stop with the weight attached but I was able to fix that after seeing a how to video on line. I would definitely recomend this clock. You will not be disapointed.
